Our team is full of video game soundtrack fans, so we want our game to have a memorable score. Our music team has been working on the themes for one of our main NPC characters – the Woodsman. This character is a pretty overworked guy, since he hunts and does all kinds of repairs and construction work around the village.

This narrative went into the thought process for the Woodsman's theme. Our music team wanted to make a piece that conveyed a feeling of constant movement, with 'layers' of music being added as the song goes on. This emulates the stress of the Woodsman and his constantly growing list of responsibilities.

Our music team researched traditional instruments from Tibet and Mongolia to get an idea of how the music should sound, and we all learned some interesting facts about throat singing and Horse-head fiddles, but such singers and instruments are difficult to come by at a midwestern university. Our music team chose to use a traditional five-piece string ensemble in Logic Pro X to create a rich composition that has given the Woodsman, and the game, more depth.
